“Avengers: Endgame” does still hold two impressive records “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” can’t beat. “Endgame” is the fastest film to ever gross $1 billion at the worldwide box office, doing so in five days back in 2019. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” did it in six. “Spider-Man” also had the second-highest global opening at $932 million, trailing only “Avengers: Endgame’s” $1.22 billion start.

All four of Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man” films rank among the 100 highest-grossing films of all time. And while “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” was expected to be a box office hit, its domination has taken even studio executives by surprise. Producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Variety he “did not expect ‘Endgame’s’ (domestic) record to be beat, but I couldn’t be happier.” Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed “Avengers: Endgame,” congratulated the film’s cast and on making domestic box office opening weekend history, adding “The gauntlet has been passed…”

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
If Holland reprises the role. Neither he nor Marvel have confirmed “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is the end of the Holland era, but he’s also not confirmed to don the mask in any other upcoming films. Rumors persist that he’ll appear in “Avengers: Doomsday” later this year or “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2027. Holland has discussed eventual plans for passing the character’s torch to another actor and said he has a “really clear vision” for the end of his time as Spider-Man. He’s also said he’ll play the character for as long as the studio wants him.
