Trade tensions with Canada have been escalating since 2025, when the U.S. implemented broad national tariffs that set off negotiations over regional trade and exemptions. In July, the U.S. announced targeted 50% tariffs on a wide swath of Canadian goods with a 30-day window for negotiations.
