Why Are Theories Spreading About The McConnell Photo?<\/h2>\n

Social media users, some of whom are widely followed far-right influencers, have spread theories that McConnell’s photo is inauthentic. Even a sitting U.S. Senator\u2014Ron Johnson, R-Wis.\u2014said on the right-wing Real America\u2019s Voice network on Monday he had \u201cheard from a source\u201d that it is an \u201colder photo,\u201d though he quickly retracted the claim. \u201cBeware of clickbait,\u201d Johnson wrote<\/u> on X Monday night, saying he hopes McConnell \u201cmakes a full recovery and returns to the Senate.\u201d On News Nation Tuesday morning, Johnson said<\/u> he has \u201cno idea\u201d whether the photo is real, saying he heard a \u201cTV host was saying it was AI.\u201d Claims on social media the photo is fake have garnered traction despite scant evidence, including one post on X that has more than 5 million views claiming the photo of McConnell was previously \u201cwidely shared\u201d in 2023. The Washington Post reported it found no evidence that the photo was first circulated in 2023. <\/p>\n

What Do We Know About McConnell\u2019s Health?<\/h2>\n

McConnell, 84, has not been seen in public for a month since he was hospitalized for a fall on June 14. He has not voted in the Senate since June 11. His office remained quiet on his condition for much of his hospital stay, fueling rumors and speculation about his health, but he released a statement<\/u> Sunday saying he was hospitalized after a fall left him \u201cbriefly unconscious.\u201d While in the hospital, he also faced a bout of pneumonia, McConnell\u2019s office said. He \u201cwon\u2019t be able to return to the Senate floor to vote quite yet,\u201d the statement says, acknowledging McConnell has \u201cphysical vulnerabilities\u201d and the recovery process \u201ctakes time.\u201d McConnell, who previously served as Senate Majority Leader, is retiring at the end of his term in January.<\/p>\n

Galloway and Swisher also acknowledged conspiracy theories have circulated following the sudden death of Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., though Galloway said his \u201ctheory\u201d is that Graham, a \u201c71-year-old male who was out of shape, traveling and under constant stress, had a heart attack and died.\u201d Graham\u2019s office said he died<\/u> from an \u201caortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.\u201d Conspiracy theories<\/u> have spread on social media, aided by some accounts linked to Iran and Russia, that Graham died in Kyiv, Ukraine, though there is no evidence backing up these claims. FBI Director Kash Patel\u2019s post that the FBI is \u201cassisting local authorities and has made every necessary resource available\u201d also fueled speculation over Graham\u2019s cause of death.<\/p>\n
