What Has Trump Said About The Opposition To Blanche?<\/h2>\n

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday, Trump dismissed<\/u> concerns about Blanche\u2019s confirmation hitting a roadblock and insisted that he was \u201coutstanding\u2026You just wouldn\u2019t find a better person.\u201d The president then took a shot at the Texas senator, saying \u201cMaybe John Cornyn\u2019s upset with me because I didn\u2019t endorse him.\u201d Trump endorsed Cornyn\u2019s opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who won the Texas GOP Senate primary in May. Speaking to reporters at the Capitol, Cornyn pushed back against Trump\u2019s remarks, saying: \u201cI think that\u2019s a convenient excuse for not cooperating with the judiciary committee\u2019s appropriate role in the confirmation.\u201d The president has not yet commented on the delay in the Senate panel vote.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Wednesday, Cornyn told reporters<\/u> that the DOJ was refusing to modify the IRS settlement\u2014which would grant Trump, his sons and others broad immunity on IRS audits. He also noted that the agency was unwilling to formally scrap the controversial $1.776 billion \u201canti-weaponization fund\u201d to compensate people who believe they were targets of politically motivated federal prosecution. Blanche told Congress earlier that the nearly $1.8 billion fund was \u201cdead,\u201d but Cornyn and Tillis have demanded written assurances from the DOJ. Cornyn told reporters, \u201cI haven\u2019t seen a single piece of writing that is responsive to what I\u2019ve requested\u2026Maybe they think I\u2019m just going to give up or, you know, go along, but they\u2019re mistaken.\u201d<\/p>\n
