{"id":2029,"date":"2026-07-30T12:08:48","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T12:08:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coasttocoastmoverss.com\/?p=2029"},"modified":"2026-07-30T12:08:48","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T12:08:48","slug":"grammy-ceo-defends-new-asian-pop-category-after-bts-boycott-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coasttocoastmoverss.com\/?p=2029","title":{"rendered":"Grammy CEO Defends New Asian Pop Category After BTS Boycott Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<h2>What Have Grammy Awards Officials Said?<\/h2>\n<p>On Wednesday night, in a statement shared with various outlets, the Recording Academy\u2019s CEO Harvey Mason Jr. <u>said<\/u>: \u201cI am saddened to hear that BTS has chosen not to participate in the Grammy Awards process this year, but as a music creator, I understand and respect their decision.\u201d Mason then defended the Asian Pop category\u2019s introduction, saying it was created to \u201ccelebrate the depth, diversity and extraordinary growth of pop artistry coming out of Asia.\u201d He added that more categories allow for more artists\u2019 works to be recognized and the intent is not to \u201cdivide.\u201d The Grammys boss also noted that: \u201cSubmitting music in a genre category\u2026does not exclude an artist from also submitting and being considered in the General Field categories, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year\u2026Recognition in a genre category and recognition in the General Field are not mutually exclusive.
