Miller denied the claim to CNN, sharing emails with Emily Moreno detailing her flight information and agreeing to a video call with their daughter. An unnamed spokesperson for Miller said: \u201cEmily asked to take the child to see family in Florida. They were not whisked away to some bunker. This is getting sad.\u201d<\/p>\n

The committee announced Wednesday it would investigate allegations of domestic violence and drug use against Miller. Earlier in the day, Miller called on the ethics committee to investigate himself, insisting he wouldn\u2019t be found of wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

Bernie Moreno on Tuesday alleged that Miller refused to give him his granddaughter\u2019s bunny when they participated in a custody exchange on Sunday at the Bay Village, Ohio, police station in suburban Cleveland. Bernie Moreno said Miller held the bunny \u201chostage\u201d for no apparent reason and didn\u2019t return it for 48 hours. Miller denied the allegations on Thursday, accusing Bernie Moreno of \u201clies\u201d and shared screenshots of conversations coordinating the bunny\u2019s transfer.<\/p>\n

Some Republicans Defend Miller<\/h2>\n

Some Republicans, including President Donald Trump, and Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, have vouched for Miller\u2019s character amid the allegations. Trump, who hired Miller to work on his campaign and in his first administration and spoke at his 2022 wedding to Emily Moreno held at his Bedminster Golf Club, said Tuesday he \u201cfeels badly\u201d for Miller and called him a \u201cgood person\u201d earlier in the week. Jordan called him a \u201cgood man\u201d in a CNN interview <\/u>this week.<\/p>\n

What did Miller say in the video?<\/h2>\n

Miller emphasized that multiple investigations into Emily Moreno\u2019s accusations against him have not led to formal charges of wrongdoing, alleging, without evidence, that Emily Moreno has \u201cstruggled with significant mental health challenges\u201d and the accusations were made \u201cin the heat of our custody fight.\u201d Miller also laid out a timeline of when the alleged abuse Emily Moreno has accused him of occurred, and detailed friendly exchanges he said he had with Emily Moreno after the alleged incidents, including an invitation to dinner at her home two days after she claimed he allegedly pointed a gun at her. He published text messages with Emily Moreno and recordings of conversations with her he said support his claims of innocence. Emily Moreno\u2019s lawyer, Subodh Chandra, alleged Miller published an unclothed photo of the couple\u2019s daughter with the documents he released Sunday that \u201ccould be considered Child Sexual Abuse Material,\u201d Chandra wrote in a letter to Miller\u2019s lawyer, Aaron Minc. Chandra said the photo was removed from the file. Minc took responsibility for publishing the photo, calling it \u201can unfortunate mistake\u201d in a statement to Politico<\/u>, adding that he was \u201csolely responsible\u201d for reviewing the documents.\u201d <\/p>\n

How have the allegations complicated Miller\u2019s re-election bid?<\/h2>\n

Democrats have seized on the allegations with campaign ads highlighting the accusations and calls for his resignation. Prior to Sunday\u2019s video, some election forecasters moved his seat as more favorable to Democrats, and at least one, Sabato\u2019s Crystal Ball, said it would move the seat to a toss-up if he didn\u2019t step down. Miller narrowly won re-election to his Cleveland-area district in 2024 with 51% of votes. The deadline for the local Republican party to replace Miller on the ballot is Aug. 10.<\/p>\n

Allegations of physical abuse made by Emily Moreno against Miller first became public in May in the Daily Mail, which published photos of bruises Emily Moreno said were caused by the abuse. Mother Jones<\/u> then published a lengthy report in July based on court filings and police records it obtained detailing investigations into the abuse allegations and custody dispute, including a February incident when their daughter broke her collarbone. Emily Moreno did not explicitly accuse Miller of breaking their daughter\u2019s collarbone, according to Mother Jones, but told detectives Miller had previously thrown hot water at her and held a gun to her head. She also told detectives she never filed a police report against Miller, because she feared \u201cno one would believe her,\u201d Mother Jones reported. Child services investigators in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, where the couple lived, reportedly found the child abuse allegations were \u201cunsubstantiated,\u201d though one of the detectives wrote that the injury was \u201csuspicious.\u201d Mother Jones on Thursday published video footage<\/u> it obtained of a police investigation into the incident in which Miller appears to downplay the broken collarbone, telling investigators, \u201ca broken . . . collarbone in a toddler, very, very common, actually extremely common. Anytime something\u2019s wrong with my daughter, I\u2019m an abuser, and it\u2019s just like this thing that people want to paint about me for whatever reason.\u201d Emily Moreno is also heard in the video telling investigators, \u201cmy daughter will say stuff [like] \u2018daddy angry or daddy\u2019s house is scary\u2019 . . . I was just like scared of him a lot, and that\u2019s why I left the house.\u201d <\/p>\n

Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, who dated Miller, accused him of pushing her against a wall and slapping her in the face in 2020, she wrote in a 2021 Washington Post op-ed<\/u> in connection with the release of her memoir. She did not name Miller at the time, but the description made it obvious she was referring to him. He sued her for defamation, and they settled the lawsuit. She filed a new lawsuit against him last month, claiming he violated the agreement by making disparaging remarks about her while discussing Emily Moreno\u2019s allegations against him. Grisham on Monday filed a temporary restraining order against Miller, her lawyer Mark Zaid announced<\/u> on X, but it\u2019s unclear why.<\/p>\n

Miller\u2019s volatile behavior allegedly dates back years<\/h2>\n

In the court records reviewed by Mother Jones, Emily Moreno accused Miller of violent behavior toward women dating back to high school. Politico in 2021 published<\/u> an extensive report, based on public records and interviews with more than 60 people, who detailed allegations of volatile behavior by Miller, including allegedly pushing a girl, causing her to fall down the stairs, in high school after she denied his advances, a claim he denied to Politico through his attorney, and a 2011 arrest for operating a vehicle while impaired. The Washington Post also reported<\/u> on some of the earlier accusations detailed by Politico in a 2018 article about inexperienced Trump appointees, including a 2007 incident in which Miller was charged with punching a man in the back of the head and running from police (he pleaded no contest and the case was dismissed). In 2009, he was charged with underage drinking (the case was dismissed in a first offenders\u2019 program) and in 2010, he was charged with disorderly conduct related to a fight outside of a hookah bar (he pleaded guilty), The Washington Post reported.<\/p>\n
