Mullin said if local officials didn\u2019t do more to protect the facility, he would shut down customs screening at Newark and shift the CBP officers to the detention center. Subsequently, Sherrill ordered state police onto the front line at Delaney Hall, and enacted a mandatory overnight curfew. In response, Mullin said \u201cas long as we continue to have this partnership with local and state law enforcement, then there\u2019ll be no need\u201d to pull CBP officers from Newark Airport. But Mullin insisted he still has a \u201cplan to initiate\u201d the removal of customs officers from other international airports in Democratic-led sanctuary cities. \u201cThis idea that this is only going to hurt blue people in blue cities is either shockingly naive or dumb,\u201d Juliette Kayyem, who served as assistant secretary for intergovernmental affairs at DHS in the Obama administration, told The Hill.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/coasttocoastmoverss.com\/?p=292\">Winklevoss Twins Were \u2018Politically Targeted,\u2019 CFTC Chief Says\u2014Clashing With Ex-Nominee Trump Yanked<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>What Is A Sanctuary City?<\/h2>\n<p>Following an April 2025 executive order by President Donald Trump, the Department of Justice (DOJ) was required to identify jurisdictions that \u201cuse their authority to violate, obstruct, and defy the enforcement of Federal immigration laws.\u201d The DOJ has identified 18 \u201csanctuary cities\u201d across the U.S. \u201cbased on actions and policies that materially impede enforcement of federal immigration statutes and regulations.\u201d They are: <strong>Albuquerque<\/strong>, New Mexico; <strong>Berkeley<\/strong>, California; <strong>Boston<\/strong>; <strong>Chicago<\/strong>; <strong>Denver<\/strong>; <strong>East Lansing<\/strong>, Michigan; <strong>Hoboken<\/strong>, New Jersey; <strong>Jersey City<\/strong>, New Jersey; <strong>Los Angeles<\/strong>; <strong>New Orleans<\/strong>; <strong>New York City<\/strong>,; <strong>Newark<\/strong>, New Jersey; <strong>Paterson<\/strong>, New Jersey; <strong>Philadelphia<\/strong>; <strong>Portland<\/strong>, Oregon; <strong>Rochester<\/strong>, New York; <strong>Seattle<\/strong>; and <strong>San Francisco<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Has Mullin\u2019s Plan Drawn Criticism?<\/h2>\n<p>Within hours of Mullin\u2019s comments on Fox News last week, backlash from the entirety of the travel industry came swiftly. \u201cPulling CBP officers from airports would cause a severe, self-inflicted economic wound,\u201d the U.S. Travel Association said in a statement. \u201cAmerican citizens trying to get home, international visitors, and the success of a once-in-a-generation global event cannot be used as leverage\u2014as a threat, a punishment or a catalyst for negotiation\u2014in disputes over immigration.\u201d The International Air Transport Association (IATA), which represents nearly 300 airlines that account for over 80% of total global air traffic,  Mullin that suspending customs processing at Newark would \u201craise serious concerns among international partners about the United States\u2019 reliability in upholding its aviation obligations.\u201d In a joint statement, the hotel and airline industry lobby groups said Mullin\u2019s proposal \u201cthreatens to cause unnecessary chaos throughout the nation&#8217;s air transportation system.\u201d Mullin\u2019s idea even drew fire from within Trump\u2019s Cabinet. \u201cWe shouldn&#8217;t shut down air travel in a state that doesn&#8217;t agree with our politics,\u201d Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy told a House Budget Committee last week. \u201cYou plan to withdraw CBP officers from airports in cities that don&#8217;t roll over for Trump.
